Participating in the 2008 TOP fundraiser gave me an inside view of how a small, grassroots organization can make a big difference in children’s lives. I think TOP’s three-pronged focus on academics, tennis, and personal development is the secret of their success in helping scores of Chicago’s kids achieve so much, including state high school championships and college scholarships. Tennis is a sport played by millions of people. Children have much to gain by learning its lifelong lessons of dedication, persistence, enthusiasm, intelligence, and sportsmanship. TOP is developing winners in tennis and in life, by helping children believe in themselves. I am delighted to be a part of that effort and I encourage everyone, who can, to support TOP and the TOP kids.

“Through my experience with TOP, I have seen that the organization is a first-class operation that truly changes the lives of its participants. It also reminds me of my days as a young player receiving support from the Long Beach Tennis Patrons to which I am indebted for helping me achieve my life goals. Every graduate of TOP has gone on to attend a top tier four-year college or university, all with substantial academic or athletic scholarships. Additionally, they have learned a love for our sport, expanded their academic horizons, and developed and matured into outstanding leaders. TOP has introduced tennis to an under served portion of the community, while providing the necessary support to make them champions on and off the court.”
